Sometimes Image Really Is Everything

PACS Technology

Lakeview Hospital is announcing the arrival of PACS! The new Picture Archiving and Communications System combines state-of-the-art computer-based imaging, storage, and networking technologies to provide an alternative to the traditional film-based handling of radiology information. PACS will be installed and operational here at Lakeview Hospital before the end of the year. imaging

PACS is an innovative system that speeds up the process of the picture archiving process, so by the time the patient gets home, the images will already have been captured, often times read, and sent to the referring physician. It also allows the radiology department to manage our patients’ images electronically, allowing images to be available when physicians need them. The system allows physicians to review patients’ images from special PACS monitors outside of the radiology department, on every floor in the hospital, and from physician offices.  Approved radiology reports will be linked to the images so the radiologists’ interpretation (reading) will be available every time an exam is viewed. This will allow us to provide safer, more efficient patient care.

While our Information Systems and Radiology departments are working diligently to get PACS up and going, your support is critical! We need your help in discussing concerns that you, your colleagues, and physicians with whom you work may have. Please do not hesitate to ask questions about PACS. Please call 299-2150 with all questions or concerns. Let’s make PACS a success!
