Intensive Care and Cardiac Care Unit

The Intensive and Critical Care Unit (ICU/CCU) is located at the north end of the third floor at Lakeview Hospital. The unit is an eight-bed combined coronary/medical/surgical care area that provides intensive nursing care and monitoring.

Most ICU/CCU patient healthcare needs are cardiac related, but other health conditions monitored in this unit include:

  • Acute respiratory failure
  • Sepsis
  • GI Bleed
  • Drug overdose
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Shock and trauma
  • Complex general surgery
  • Stroke (Brain Attack)
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease
  • Post Op Craniotomies
  • Complex critically ill patients

The ICU/CCU is staffed by Registered Nurses (RNs), who care for patients according to a 1:1 or 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, depending on a patient's severity of illness. Nurses are assigned to patients according to competency, experience and advanced training.

Our Critical Care Team Believes That:

  • Patients are the reason we exist. Caring is critical in helping people maintain heath, effect healing, and adapt to stressful experiences.
  • Caring involves acts and attitudes of critical thinking and clinical competency.
  • Quality nursing care is every patient’s right and every nurse’s responsibility. Quality is the combination of clinical competence and the art of our commitment to caring.
  • Clinical competence and professional development are achieved and maintained through continuing education.
  • A collaborative practice among healthcare professionals, patients and family members is essential for positive patient outcomes.
